Played a great tense game vs Aaron Harrison pitting my Army of Gothmog list against his Rivendell list in what can only be described as a war of attrition. Scenario was Lords of battle and with us both having pretty solid shield lines with spear supports we both elected to deploy right up on the middle of the board ready for a fight. The game was one simple question and that was could the elves kill more Morannons on 6s knowing they could win 75% of all combats, or when given the opportunity could the Morannons take their kills on 5s?
Turn one I lose priority but call a march with Guritz. Even though we could be in combat turn 1 with the mobility of the Rivendell knights I had to make sure I was moving up and blocking choke points. With some tactical shuffling I was able to crash my lines in a way that would prevent Elrond and Arwen from being able to have access to my front line minimising the threat of the bruinen but some clever moves meant that Aaron could call winds MY big hitter in the Mordor troll limiting him to 3 combats all game!
Goroth proved to be the MVP taking advantage of the “a time for heroes” scenario rule spending his might to strike and kill a captain, then using his regained might to kill Arwen.
After more rounds of tight combat it was very close on the wound tally but the Morannons edged out with a small handful more kills taking the 4 VPs there. I broke Rivendell on the final few combats of the game (so luckily didn’t get the following free “invoke the bruinen” nuke to my army) and managed to stay unbroken by only 4/5 models awarding me 3VPs then the heroics of Goroth killing Hero models brought it to a 9-0.
Very tense close game and the score didn’t really show how close and tight the game was! GGs Aaron Harrison 💪🏻
