ATOP THE WALL vs MINAS MORGUL
Board was laid out to represent a ruined area of the city of Minas Tirith with conquest creations Tor Ithilas terrain.
Turn 1
Priority went to ATW. MM declared they were drumming and marched forward to claim the objectives on both flanks, as well as the one in their deployment zone. Round ended with MM on 6 fortification points (FP) and ATW on 2 FP's.
Turn 2
ATW won priority. MM declared they were beating the drum. A lone morannon orc scaled a ruined tower to claim an objective, a tasty target for the citadel guard, however, failed to find their mark. Four knights of Minas Tirith charged a pack of orcs on the left flank. Kardush successfully killed a horse, but failed to kill the rider with a flame burst. The Witchking flew over his legion on his fell beast to charge a knight of MT. The ringwraith successfully cast a transfix on the knight of the white tower. The WK called a heroic combat, and won the duel roll (with a 6 from a banner reroll). He destroyed the knight on horse back then charged the transfixed knight of the white tower. Luckily for the KotWT, the WK lost the duel, and decided it was not worth burning a point of might to go to a roll off. Five warriors of MM were lost, and two from ATW. MM gained 6 FP's, to ATW's 4.
Turn 3
MM won priority to which Gandalf and the KotWT called heroic moves, with the WK and Kardush countering. WK wins the roll off and charges two citadel guards with longbow on the back objective, but fails to transfix the KotWT. Kardush was transfixed on Gandalfs moved and his contingent of knights charged in to battle (one in to Kardush). Gandalf was then transfixed on a 5 which he failed to resist on four dice, dashing his hopes for a heroic combat. The third citadel guard charges with WK, bringing another dice to the fight and trapping him. Irolas and an orc captain both call heroic combats, Irolas winning the roll off. He cuts down the trapped spectre and charges the orc captain, also trapping him. Irolas wins the fight and rolls four 5's, removing him from the battle also. The WK won his fight, but only killed two of the three citadel guards, even with the eight dice due to his monstrous charge. Kardush was mowed down thanks to the plus 1 to wound from the lance, and the armys hatred mordor if within 12 inches of Gandalf. MM lost Kardush, the orc captain and ten warriors. MM took the advantage with the FP's, gaining seven more this round and nine to ATW.
Turn 4
ATW priority. WK was tied up and charged by the lonely citadel guard, Gandalf made his way towards the WK, casting a banishment which was unsuccessful on three dice. The rest of the men charged where they could and made their way towards objectives. Seven MM were slain, Irolas' plus 1 to wound rule, Gandalfs plus 1 with hatred, and plus 1 for the lance proving deadly. Although winning numerous fights, the dice have betrayed MM, regularly failing to roll higher than a three (with fours needed with blades of the dead).
Turn 5
ATW priority. Ringwraith called a heroic moves which Irolas counted and won. The ringwraiths move could not be cancelled and he managed to successfully cast a transfix on Gandalf which he had to use his first point of might to resist. Gandalf then failed to cast banishment on the WK again, but charged him none the less. His knights following close behind ready for the next turn. Gandalf struck which the WK did not call, opting to save his last point for the next fight which would see several lances charging him. Gandalf won the fight (the WK rolling a two high on three dice) and managed to put one wound on the fell beast. MM broke this turn with four warriors falling. MM claimed one FP, to ATW's four.
Turn 6
Priority went to ATW, the WK using his last point of might call a move to gain the charge bonus for the inevitable clash to come. Gandalf did counter, but evil won the roll off. The WK rolled a fiver high on seven dice to transfix Gandalf, which he resisted on a six. Two knights of MT charged the WK with a banner close behind. The WK rolled a four high on four dice (frustratingly regular occurance for evil). Gandalf and the knights won the fight, with the knights needing 4's by 2's to wound the WK. He was wounded twice but successfully saved with fate rolls. Six warriors of MM were killed, many fled which gave the men of Gondor much needed FP's, which quartered them and ended the game. ATW gained eight FP's and MM one.
